How To Cut Gemstones

Gemstone Evaluation and Selection

The first step involves evaluating the raw gemstone's quality, including its type, color, clarity, and size. This step ensures the selection of the best raw material for processing and determines the most suitable cutting and polishing methods.

Design and Planning

A design plan is created based on the gemstone’s natural characteristics. The cutter must decide on the shape, cut, and orientation that will maximize the stone’s brilliance, beauty, and value. This step also involves accounting for any inclusions or imperfections in the gem.

Cutting

Grinding and Pre-Polishing
